Words from the Executive Director Deborah Agema Hello SCC’s and Parents and Community It’s almost June and some elections for SCC office are now, but many are in fall. We have six workshops planned next year around the province and we should be able to reach most people near their home communities. Look to see some presentations from our Board Members. It’s such an exciting year. Principal Corine Miller from Dr Perry School in Regina was nominated and won Principal of the Year in 2009. Congratulations on a wonderful nomination from parents and staff of your school. It was a difficult choice from the flood of applications. Think about nominating your principal for next year. Teacher Staff Appreciation Week theme this year is Interlocking Energies. The kick-off is on Monday; Feb 8th 2010 will be in Regina at Dr. Perry School. When the Principal of the Year is chosen it comes with the honour of hosting the kick-off of TSAW. Material will be on the web site in the fall and will also come out in an all school mail out. Ask your school secretary to watch for this. We have some changes in our office. Sarah Sun was Office Assistant as well as President and due to illness much of the previous year, has resigned. I am doing the office duties until further notice. Also we have a new Webmaster. Someone to upload information in a timely manner. Look often for updates as we utilize this technology to its fuller extent. Darlene Krell from Swift Current is our new President. She has been a volunteer at the board table for six years and is well qualified to do all the requirements of the office. Her bubbly personality will make it easy to work with her. I know that I enjoy her ideas about education and look to working in a close partnership with her. We also are uploading a helpful tool for SCC’s. It’s a board member self-evaluation. Please use this tool for all your members and see where you are on the scale. SASC is also using call forward to a cell phone so that all calls are answered in a timely way. However, that makes it impossible to receive a fax unless I am in the office and have the call forwarding turned off. We are using a temporary number for faxing at 306-445-7707. However email is free and widely used. Our email address will remain the same at sasc@sasktel.net We also have a new item up on the website called ASK SASC. When questions come in they will be edited for space and content along with the reply and placed on ASK SASC page and should be changed or added to, as new and interesting questions come along. The 2009 Volunteer of the Year Award from SASC was received by myself and was such an honour to receive. If there is someone in your school that is the best volunteer ever, submit their name and achievements to SASC. Applications will be available on line later in the year. I will be working this next month on pining down dates and places for our workshops and once finalised, will be posted. I look forward to meeting with as many of you as possible at that time. This will also be in an all school mail out in the fall. Sincerely Deborah Agema |
