Education Week October 18-24 2009 The theme for this year’s education week is Achieving My Inner Best An Education committee chaired by the Ministry of Education along with the partners in Education, teachers (STF), trustees (SSBA), French schools, and of course parents (SASC) met with the design team that will be designing this years poster. I was especially pleased that the theme this year speaks to the individual child. Education Week will be held in October. In exploring the options that perhaps will be used during Education Week, I had hoped that some time would be spent teaching children to be reflective. Parents can do this at home and do not even need to wait until Education Week to discuss this with their child. The committee felt this year’s theme was appropriate for both elementary and high school as it should speak to everyone. When the posters are selected they will be translated as well into French, Cree, Dene and possibly one or two other languages. That way every school will have posters to display and I know that most schools plan a myriad of activities during that week. Many of them will involve parents and community so enjoy the week. The poster will be posted for download from this site when available. The committee was also considering a survey to determine whether or not Education Week should be in the fall or spring. School Community Councils (SCC’s) will have an opportunity to help decide this question as well as individual parents. Look for information in this regard electronically after Education Week.
